History Notes: Women's British Open

The first Women's British Open, then named the Ladies' British Open, was the flagship event of the Ladies' Golf Union and was played at Fulford in Yorkshire. At a time when there were just a handful of British women professional golfers, the Championship was won by the Amateur Jenny Lee-Smith.

Tiger Woods Leads Player of the Year Standings

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla.—Tiger Woods, who captured a marathon U.S. Open on June 15 and announced a day later that he would sit out the remainder of the year to rehabilitate after reconstructive knee surgery, is the leader in the PGA of America's 2008 Player of the Year point standings.
